The Cult of the Sound of Music - that's the title of a BBC News website on the film. The BBC does not quite get it though-
The Sound of Music is the epitome of chirpy optimism and innocence. Even though the central element of the plot is a middle-aged man trying to pull a young nun, it's regarded as the height of wholesomeness.
I confess that I have probably seen the film more than any other, including two sing-a-long versions, and the stage show twice! What can I do? It was the second movie my mother ever took me to see. The first was Batman and Robin.
Such films made me who I am today.

I enjoyed "A Chorus Line" and "South Pacific" just as much as any other guy, but Dr H., I hated this musical above all others. I dont know what did it...but I cant stand it.
I've always loved that Austrians have very little knowledge of the film. And the gaping error at the end of the film when they cross that mountain - presumably straight into Bavaria. Oops.
Don't hate on the Captain when the nunnery runs like a brothel or pimp service sending out plump young virginal nuns to lonely widowed men to "raise their kids". MOre money for the Cathedral, I say Georg never really flirted, until the dance (as a joke first) and went on to get engaged to the Baroness. The little tramp Maria wandered back to let him know she was ready, willing and available. That's how I like to view it. =)
Love it watch it at least once a year, since childhood.
